Axios strengthens Middle East presence through key contract with PDO

December 19, 2006

Petroleum Development Oman consults Axios Systems to adopt ISO/IEC 20000

Axios Systems’ Global Best Practice division today strengthens its Middle East presence and demonstrates the growing requirement for ITSM Best Practice through a key consultancy contract with Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), the largest oil and gas exploration and production company in the Sultanate. As a result of the consulting engagement, PDO is looking to adopt ISO/IEC 20000 standards in order to achieve an improvement in the IT services it depends on to run its business.

The company demands that its IT operation be closely aligned with its fast growing and challenging business. Furthermore, in today’s connected world where businesses and their partners have to work closer but at same time ensure the confidentiality of the work, PDO must adhere to strict standards for IT security, infrastructure and systems integrity.

PDO recognized the need and the associated business benefits from implementing Best Practice IT Service Management. Working closely with PDO’s IT department and Axios’ partner Paramount Computer Systems (Dubai), Axios provided PDO with a gap analysis of its current Best Practice status and a framework to help achieve ISO/IEC20000 guidelines.

Markos Symeonides, VP of Business Development at Axios Systems commented: “We have seen the level of interest in adopting Best Practice dramatically rise in the Middle East in the last 18 months. Changing attitudes amongst end-users combined with increased IT investments in the region has led to the guidelines being central to many organizations. We were pleased to work closely with PDO to help it meet its own high standards.”

Ibtisam al Riyami, IT Manager at PDO, said: “With IT becoming the keystone on which businesses thrive, we recognized the need to implement Best Practice guidelines. ISO/IEC 20000 will provide us with a robust standard helping us to gain a competitive edge and increased accountability. Axios was able to analyze our current approach to standards and then provide us with a clear roadmap and process to achieving Best Practice for ITSM.”
