Microsoft Windows Vista not a priority according to survey

December 04, 2006

Combination of IT, help desk support and education of users seen as the biggest issues in the deployment of Windows Vista

Axios Systems, the leading international IT Service Management (ITSM) software company, today announced that Microsoft Windows Vista is not seen as a priority for many IT Directors / CIOs and Help Desk Managers in 2007. According to a survey of 240 IT Directors and Helpdesk Managers of large UK and International organizations only 5% claimed they would seek to deploy Windows Vista in 2007.

While Windows Vista has been widely anticipated by many in the IT industry, many organizations claimed their biggest focus areas for 2007 will be ITSM (31%), Knowledge Management (35%), VoIP infrastructures (18%), security software (13%), business intelligence software (12%) and SOA technologies (9%). The deployment of Microsoft’s new operating system, Windows Vista, was the lowest priority.

According to respondents of Axios Systems survey into IT and Help Desk challenges for 2007, the major issues facing IT Directors and Help Desk Managers in the deployment of Windows Vista include infrastructures being unable to support the new version (22%), the increase in help desk support (21%), time to educate users on new capabilities (20%), and new functionality not working properly (19%).

Tasos Symeonides, CEO of Axios Systems, said, “The hype around Microsoft Windows Vista does not appear to have turned it into a priority for many IT Directors / CIOs and Help Desk Managers. We expect many organizations to deploy Windows Vista because of its advanced functionality and clear long-term benefits but initial concerns about the product and effects on help desks and end-users may put customers off for a while. We would urge organizations to look closely at the way they support users from an IT perspective right through to the help desk by ensuring they have an ITSM solution that can manage resources and users of this major technology deployment.”
