Ailsa Symeonides, co-founder of Edinburgh-based global software firm Axios Systems, has been named the UK IT support industry’s ‘Woman of the Year’ by the HDI (Help Desk Institute) publication, Support World.
Mrs Symeonides, Sales and Marketing Director of the firm, which specializes in Help Desk and Service Management, was “a champion of the advancement of women in IT,” Support World magazine said in its review of 2005.
“Despite her hectic schedule she dedicates much time to the promotion of the Axios ‘A’ Star Awards which have developed into one of the UK’s most prestigious competitions for female IT students,” it added.
Mrs Symeonides set up the annual ‘A’ Star Awards in 2000 as an initiative to encourage more girls to study and take up careers in computing, an industry which is heavily dominated by men. She has attracted some of the world’s top IT companies - including Accenture, IBM and Microsoft - as sponsors.
Axios Systems (www.axiossystems.com) was recently voted Scottish Software Company of the Year for the second time in succession. It has 11 offices in nine countries in Europe, North America, the Middle East and Australia.
